Why is trimming my shrubs so important?
Removing the unwanted and unhealthy parts of your plants prevents the spread of disease. As the unhealthy twigs and leaves are removed, healthy growth can occur in their place. In other words, trimming and pruning do not just preserve the health of your plants; they improve plant health by stimulating stronger growth.
What's the difference between basic trimming and cutting shrubs back, redefining the shape
A basic trimming is when shrubs are trimmed twice a year to maintain a healthy and proper shape. We usually go by the 3 inch rule, if we are cutting 3 inches or less it is a basic trim. If your shrubs have been trimmed with in the last 7 months you would fall under a basic trim. Redefining shape and or cutting back shrubs is taking an over grown shrub and trimming it back more than 3 inches but at a healthy rate to get the shrub in a more maintained look. This is ideal for shrubs that are touching a structure or overhanging a sidewalk or parking lot. This includes more time and more waste to remove.
