It all started on a Sunday afternoon. I (Ruben, the dad) was on the couch with football and Cheetos, Ru was in his room playing Fortnite, and I felt like we were wasting time. Bills were piling up, a new job was uncertain, and I kept hearing that phrase: start with what you have.
So we grabbed our “home cheapo” lawn equipment—an old push mower, a battery weed eater, and a hand blower—loaded it into our Honda Odyssey, and went hunting for tall grass. First knock? Boom—our first $20 lawn. By the time the batteries died, we had done three houses and realized maybe this was more than just a Sunday afternoon gig.
That night I prayed, talked with my wife, and we laughed our way into a name: A-Lawn-so Services. (Yes, it’s cheesy—but it stuck!)
From those first push-mower days, we’ve grown with God’s blessings into a full family-run business. We’ve worked through long weeks, hot summers, and even found a surprising winter niche—lawn painting. In fact, one TikTok video Jena posted about it went viral with over 3.5 million views, and suddenly we were getting calls from across the world.
We may be far from that old minivan and Ryobi batteries now, but we’ll never forget where we started. Every customer matters to us, because this business is built on hard work, family, faith, and a whole lot of gratitude.
